Macao man nabbed for involvement in fraud of considerably huge amount

In July 2024, the Judiciary Police received a report from a mainland male victim, alleging that he had been defrauded of money by somebody on the pretext of job referral. Case details revealed that, the victim learnt through a friend’s introduction that, the involved Macao man, who self-professed to be a person in charge of large-scale projects in Macao, had channels to arrange mainland residents to work in Macao as well as applying for relevant documents. The victim intended to introduce 92 fellow countrymen to work in Macao. Thus, as instructed by the involved Macao man, the victim transferred RMB141,360 to the involved Macao man’s electronic payment account. Yet, the other party kept procrastinating after receiving the money. Subsequently, he was even out of reach. Suspected that he had been defrauded, the victim reported to the police for assistance.

The Economic Crimes Division of the Judiciary Police launched an investigation and intercepted the involved Macao man in the central district on 21st January 2025. 68 mainland travel permits and 33 medical examination certificates were seized inside his residence. Among the documents, holders of 10 mainland travel permits were the fellow countrymen of the victim. Upon investigation, personnel of the Judiciary Police discovered that, the involved Macao man had no channels to arrange mainland residents to work in Macao. It was also learnt from investigation that, he had been involved in 4 other similar cases, in which 10 victims, who intended to introduce 242 fellow countrymen to work in Macao, were defrauded of over MOP430,000.

Based on investigative findings, the Judiciary Police transferred the involved Macao man to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of fraud (considerably huge amount).
