Shop burglary case solved, two local men arrested
On the afternoon of 4th January 2025, a representative of a trading house in the Northern district reported to the Judiciary Police that the store had been burglarised. Case details revealed that on the early morning of that day, the owner of the trading house counted the goods and secured the rolling shutter with a lock as usual and left. Until the same midday, upon returning to the store to open for business, the owner found that the lock had been cut off and approximately HKD48,000 in cash had been stolen from the drawer in the store.
After investigation, officers of the Robbery Offences Section of the Judiciary Police identified the two involved men, who were intercepted at the Border Gate and Northern district on January 4th and 5th respectively, with around HKD6,000 of stolen money seized from the first involved local man. Upon investigation, it was found that the first involved local man, who had worked in the trading house, was the mastermind in the case. He partnered with the second involved local man to commit the crime. The second involved local man called a locksmith to cut open the lock on the grounds that he had lost the key. The locksmith left immediately after completing the work and collecting the unlocking fee, who did not participate in the theft. The second involved local man entered the store to steal, and then went to a nearby street to meet the first involved local man.
Based on investigative findings, the Judiciary Police transferred the two involved local men to the Public Prosecutions Office with the charge of aggravated theft, while continuing to trace the whereabouts of the remaining stolen money.
