Local woman arrested for fraud of considerably huge amount
On 8th July 2023, the Public Security Police Force referred a fraud case to the Judiciary Police. Two mainland man and woman reported that they were defrauded by a local woman, who claimed to be a staff member of a luxury watch shop, under the pretext of re-ordering luxury watches that customers had cancelled their orders between February and June 2023. During the follow-up process after receiving the case, the Judiciary Police received another report from a mainland man who claimed to be defrauded by the above involved woman with the same modus operandi. The trio suffered a loss of approximately MOP 670,000 in total.
After investigation, the personnel of the Economic Crimes Division of the Judiciary Police learnt that the involved woman told the above-mentioned victims that they could order luxury watches that customers had cancelled and make up the purchase under the name of the victims. The watches could be resold in the mainland later for profit, which could be up to 50%. The trio paid a total of RMB 664,000 to buy 17 pieces of luxury watch. Afterwards, despite repeated questioning by the victims, the involved woman kept stalling for various reasons and was unable to provide the order information. Two of the victims only received a refund of about RMB 4,000 and RMB 100,000 respectively. In the end, the victims suspected that they had been cheated and reported the case for help. The Public Security Police Force subsequently sent personnel to intercept the involved woman at the scene and handed her to the Judiciary Police for follow-up.
Investigation by the Judiciary Police revealed that the involved woman was not a staff member of the related watch shop, and that the relevant models of the luxury watches had been discontinued and could not be ordered. Meanwhile, the involved woman refused to cooperate during interrogation. However, since there were strong indications that she had committed a crime, the involved woman was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of fraud (considerably huge amount).
No final, as vítimas suspeitaram terem sido enganadas e denunciaram o facto à polícia.
