International drug trafficking syndicate busted with $18 million of cocaine seized

The Judiciary Police received intelligence a few days ago, indicating that a drug trafficking syndicate was using Macao as a drug smuggling transit point. After in-depth investigation by the Narcotics Division, two members of the drug trafficking syndicate, one from Gambia and the other from Nigeria, were identified. On February 29th, the two were found entering Macao via the Border Gate, and they were staying in a hotel in the Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro area. The Judiciary Police thus initiated surveillance.
On the morning of March 1st, the two proceeded to the Macao International Airport, where they contacted an involved Malaysian man who came to Macao from Thailand. The Malaysian man later checked into another room at the aforementioned hotel. At midday, the involved Nigerian man, while he was trying to leave Macao at the Outer Harbour Maritime Terminal, was intercepted by the Judiciary Police officers and he was brought back to the hotel for investigation. The Judiciary Police officers respectively arrested the other two involved individuals in the two hotel guestrooms, and found several bags of cocaine packed in oval-shaped pellets in the room of the Gambian man. The drugs weighed a total of approximately 6 kilograms, with a value of around MOP18,000,000.
The investigation found that there were members of international drug trafficking syndicate who, by the way of body-cavity concealment, smuggled drugs from overseas to Dubai International Airport. They excreted the pellets in the restricted zone of the airport and handed them to the arrested Malaysian man. He then came to Macao via Thailand and turned the drugs to the two aforementioned accomplices. It was believed that the drugs would be carried to other regions. The Judiciary Police transferred the three involved individual to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, and continued to investigate the case and pursue the individuals involved.
