Filipino arrested for inappropriate detention of identification documents and profiteering
On 17th September 2026, the Judiciary Police received complaints from two victims, alleging that a Filipino had detained their identification documents following their loans. Case details revealed that between February and April 2026, the two victims respectively borrowed MOP2,500 and MOP7,500 from the involved Filipino, paying a monthly interest of 10% until they could fully settle the principal, while surrendering their identification documents as a guarantee.
Subsequent to investigation, the Organised Crime Division of the Judiciary Police identified the involved man, and intercepted him at noon on October 6th at Areia Preta district. Investigation revealed that the involved man had granted loans to the two victims since February 2026. Up to the present, MOP850 and MOP1,220 of interest had been received from the two individuals respectively.
Based on investigative results, the Judiciary Police transferred the involved man to the Public Prosecutions Office with the charges of inappropriate detention of identification documents and profiteering, while continuing to pursue the whereabouts of the detained identification documents, and whether more victims are involved.
