Five Mainland men involved in robbery brought to justice

On the night of 2nd September 2026, the victim proceeded to a hotel room in Cotai district to conduct an illegal currency exchange with the first involved Mainland man at the request of his male cousin. Inside the room, after agreeing upon the exchange rate with the first, second and third involved Mainland men, the victim immediately took out four gaming chips, each with a face value of HKD10,000, and displayed them on his right palm. The first involved man suddenly reached out and snatched the chips, refusing to return them. Thereafter, the three involved men left the room, and the victim promptly followed them, but eventually lost sight of them. He then reported the incident to the police for assistance.
The 4th Section of Coordination of the Judiciary Police swiftly launched an investigation, and in the early hours of September 3rd, successively apprehended the aforementioned three involved men, as well as the fourth and the fifth involved Mainland men, at the hotel where the incident occurred and in its vicinity successfully. HKD36,500 in illicit cash proceeds and the involved mobile phones were seized. Investigation revealed that the fifth involved man was responsible for renting the hotel room, while the fourth involved man had all along been hiding in the room, planning to exchange the gaming chips for cash after committing the crime, and proceeding to other casinos to gamble. After robbing the victim, the three involved men brought along the loot and met up with the fifth involved man. They subsequently proceeded to a casino, where they gambled and lost some of the ill-gotten gains, and finally met up with the fourth involved man.
Based on investigative findings, the Judiciary Police transferred the five involved men to the Public Prosecutions Office for investigation on the charge of robbery. A separate case file was opened to investigate individuals suspected of engaging in illegal currency exchange activities in this case.
