Mainland man arrested for impersonating “judicial authorities” in fraud case

On 1st August 2025, a local female victim received a phone call from an unknown ID.  The caller claimed to be a “mainland police officer”, and alleged that the victim’s phone card registered in the mainland had sent out numerous fraudulent text messages.  She was instructed to enable the “screen sharing” function for “online investigation”, and enter her Macao bank account numbers and passwords on a designated website for “fund verification”.  The victim complied.  Later, the victim became suspicious.  Upon checking, she discovered that between 1st August to 5th August 2025, 13 remittances from two bank accounts under her name had been transferred to 9 different bank accounts, resulting in a loss of MOP1,139,592, thus reporting the case to the Judiciary Police on August 6th in the same year.

The IT Crimes Division of the Judiciary Police followed up with the investigation, and identified an involved mainland man.  Investigation revealed that he had received a sum equivalent to about MOP108,150 in fraudulent funds through his bank account.  The involved man was arrested when he entered Macao via the Border Gate on the evening of 13th August 2026.  The personnel of the Judiciary Police seized a mobile phone on him, and found that he had received RMB2,500 from his upper level as a reward for the crime.

Based on investigative findings, the Judiciary Police transferred the involved man to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offences of fraud (huge amount) and money laundering, while continuing to pursue the whereabouts of the remaining involved persons at large and the illicit proceeds.

A vítima seguiu as instruções.
