Mainland man arrested for attempted murder and prohibited weapons

On the evening of 5th August 2026, the Public Security Police Force referred a case to the Judiciary Police regarding a knife attack at a hotel in the Cotai district. Case details revealed that, on that evening, the mainland female victim scheduled to meet someone outside the hotel entrance where the incident occurred to trade hotel reward stays. After she got into the other party’s vehicle parked outside the hotel entrance, the involved mainland man suddenly appeared and forced his way into the car, repeatedly attacking the victim’s head and neck with a sharp weapon, causing severe injuries to the victim. Seeing this, the male driver and two women in the vehicle fled in panic to seek help from hotel security officers. Several hotel security officers then rushed to the scene, worked together to subdue the involved man, and sent the victim to the hospital for treatment.
Given the severity of the case, the Judiciary Police immediately activated its serious crime scene investigation mechanism, dispatching personnel of the Case Reporting and Emergency Operation Centre, First Section of Coordination, and Crime Scene Investigation Division to the scene for investigation. Two cutters, a set of cutlery (knife and fork), and a mobile phone were seized on the hotel driveway and inside the vehicle, while discovering multiple bloodstains in several spots.
Investigations revealed that, the involved man and the victim were a couple. Fuelled by resentment over a relationship dispute and money matters, on the afternoon of the incident, the involved man went to a shop in Taipa to buy two cutters, and took away a set of table cutlery (knife and fork) from his rented hotel room, intending to wait for an opportunity to commit murder in revenge. On the evening of the same day, upon seeing the victim walking with a man and getting into the vehicle, the involved man immediately charged forward to carry out the attack, only ceasing his assault when hotel security officers subdued him.
Based on investigative findings, the Judiciary Police transferred the involved man to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offences of attempted murder, as well as production, and possession or use of prohibited weapon or related items.
