Mainland man arrested for illicit operation of online gaming

The Judiciary Police received a tip-off earlier on, indicating that someone was engaging in the so-called “electronic betting” illegal operation of online games of fortune activities in a casino in the Cotai district. After investigation, the involved mainland man was intercepted in the said casino on the night of 22nd July 2026 and was brought back to the Judiciary Police for investigation.
Investigation revealed that the involved mainland man had concealed a mobile phone in the modified outfit on the night of that day, secretly shooting the gaming process through the pinhole on the outfit, while notifying a patron to watch the live streaming of the gambling through another mobile phone connected to Bluetooth earphone. As the environment in the casino was noisy and the man was unable to clearly hear the instructions to place bets, he stopped the live streaming and was immediately stopped and questioned by personnel of the Judiciary Police.
Investigation by personnel of the Gaming-related Crimes Division revealed that the involved man had advanced gambling funds of HKD 50,000 to conduct illegal live-streamed betting for the patron, in order to gain tips from the patron in winning games. However, he failed to gain any reward as the betting was not completed. Personnel of the Judiciary Police found a modified outfit, two mobile phones, HKD 49,500 of casino chips, and a Bluetooth receiver with earphones and battery on him.
The Judiciary Police integrated the investigative findings and transferred the involved mainland man to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of illegal operation of online games of fortune or online mutual gaming.
