Mainland man and woman nabbed for involvement in aggravated theft

On 11th July 2026, the Judiciary Police received a report from a Mainland male victim, indicating that HKD119,500 worth of chips had been stolen from a unit he was renting in the Northern district. The unit, located on the rooftop of a tenement building in the Northern District, was an illegal guesthouse.

Case details revealed that, in the wee hours of the day of the incident, the victim returned to the aforementioned unit to take a shower. During the course, he hung his crossbody bag containing the chips on the bathroom door. He subsequently forgot to retrieve it and went straight to his room to rest. On the morning of the same day, when the victim retrieved the bag, he discovered that the chips inside had vanished into thin air. Suspecting that his housemate had stolen the chips, he called the Judiciary Police for assistance.

The 4th Section of Coordination of the Judiciary Police immediately launched an investigation, and identified two involved Mainland individuals. Investigation revealed that, after committing the theft inside the unit, the involved woman met up with the involved man immediately. The duo then went together to a casino in the Cotai District, where the man converted the chips into HKD119,500 in cash. Afterwards, the Judiciary Police intercepted the duo at the casino. Upon conducting a search, a gold necklace valued at approximately HKD110,000 and a mobile phone were recovered from the involved woman, while HKD17,000 worth of chips, HKD600 in cash, and a mobile phone were seized from the involved man.

Based on investigative findings, the Judiciary Police transferred the two individuals to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offences of aggravated theft and stolen goods. Furthermore, as the case involved an illegal guesthouse, the Judiciary Police has notified Macao Government Tourism Office for follow-up.
