Mainland Chinese man arrested for illegal operation of online gaming

Learning from the security department of a casino in central district during the wee hours of 5th July 2026 that a man had been found engaging in the so-called “e-betting” online gaming criminal activities, the Judiciary Police deployed personnel to the scene to handle the matter.
Investigation revealed that on the evening of July 4th, the involved mainland Chinese man, wearing a modified outfit with a pinhole to fix his mobile phone in front of the chest to aim the camera at the gaming table for secret photography and live broadcast, had earned illegal profits by simultaneously using messaging apps and micro earbuds to receive mainland Chinese customers’ betting instructions and placing bets for them.
The Gaming-related Crimes Division officers of the Judiciary Police seized HKD 78,000 in chips on the involved man at the scene, alongside crime tools including his modified outfit worn during the perpetration, two mobile phones, micro earbuds set and straps. The involved man was found to have fully equipped for the perpetration and be highly skilled in the modus operandi and process of crime, suggesting compelling indications of illegal operation of online gaming.
Based on investigative findings, the Judiciary Police transferred the involved mainland Chinese man to the Public Prosecutions Office for the charge of illegal operation of online games of fortune or online mutual gaming.
