Local man arrested for abetting, assisting or promoting suicide
The Public Security Police Force transferred a case of suspected abetting suicide and the involved local man to the Judiciary Police on 30th June 2026.
Case information suggested that the victim, living with his wife and son (i.e. the involved man), suffered from chronic illnesses, depression and mobility issues, causing his long-term depressed mood and repeated expressions of suicide intent.
In-depth investigation and objective evidence indicated that on the day of the incident, the victim, having fallen down and failed to get back up on his own at his residence, called his family for help in vain. He later expressed dissatisfaction with his wife and son who had then returned home. During the heated argument ensued between them, the agitated victim demanded his son to give him “poison” to end his life. His son then took a bottle of disinfectant from the bathroom, twisted open the cap and handed it to the victim, who instantly had a sip. During that time, his son had never stopped him or adopted any emergency measures. The victim, feeling sick, called the police for help in the end.
According to family members, there was no major resentment or circumstances of premeditated crime between the victim and his son.
The victim is still hospitalised and in stable condition with no immediate danger to his life. The Judiciary Police has arranged the personnel of the Social Welfare Bureau to provide the involved family with emergency support on site.
Based on investigative findings, the involved man was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office for the charge of abetting, assisting or promoting suicide.
