Macao man prosecuted for involvement in rape and sexual coercion

On 6th June 2026, the Judiciary Police received a report from a female non-resident worker, who claimed that she had been sexually assaulted by her male employer.
It was learnt that, around three years ago, the female victim had come to Macao to work as a domestic helper until she resigned and left Macao in March 2026. She returned to Macao again in late May. Introduced by a friend, she proceeded to the involved man’s residence in Taipa on May 31st for a job interview. At that time, the female victim and the involved man did not know each other. On June 2nd, the involved man expressed his intention to hire the female victim. After both parties processed the quota application procedures, the female victim accompanied the involved man to the involved unit to work. However, while she was working, the involved man demanded a kiss from the female victim, threatening that if she did not comply, he would not process her non-resident worker’s identification card. Due to financial pressure at that time, the female victim was kissed by the involved man under duress. Yet, the involved man did not stop there and further sexually assaulted the female victim.
On the day after the incident, while the female victim was working at the involved man’s residence, he used the same method again to threaten the female victim into having sexual intercourse. After the female victim explicitly refused, the involved man forcefully dragged and pushed the female victim down, intending to sexually assault the female victim. Meeting with refusal and resistance, his attempt failed, and he subsequently drove the female victim out of the residence. Upon consideration, the female victim proceeded to the Judiciary Police on the afternoon of June 6th to report the case for assistance.
On June 7th, personnel of the Judiciary Police found the involved man at the unit where the offence took place, and he was brought back to the Judiciary Police for investigation. Combining multiple sources of investigative information and evidence, there are strong indications that the involved man has committed the offences of rape and sexual coercion, which met the aggravating circumstances in a labour-subordinate relationship. The Judiciary Police transferred the involved man to the Public Prosecutions for proceedings.
