A casino in Cotai reported to the Judiciary Police on 26th May 2026 that two fraud cases involving the exchange of counterfeit chips were uncovered, leading to the apprehension of two involved mainland Chinese men and an involved local woman.
In the first case, the first involved mainland Chinese man exchanged 15 HKD 10,000 in chips from the local woman engaging in illegal currency exchange, who found the chips unusual and suspected that they were counterfeit. The duo’s altercation alerted the security guards. The local woman did not suffer any loss in the incident.
In the second case, another involved mainland Chinese man exchanged 13 HKD 10,000 in chips with the male victim, also from mainland China, who found that the chips were counterfeit only after transferring RMB 113,490 (equivalent to about HKD 130,000). Visitors in general might be defrauded without thorough inspection.
