Mainland man prosecuted for involvement in aggravated theft
On 24th February 2026, the victim travelled to Macao and checked into a hotel room in the Cotai district together with a mainland man with whom he had previously been acquainted. On the following day at noon, after taking a nap, the victim woke up and found that the mainland man had already left the room. Meanwhile, he discovered that HKD1 million in cash had gone missing from his backpack. He suspected that the other party had stolen it. Thus, he reported to the police for assistance forthwith.
The 2nd Section of Coordination of the Judiciary Police learnt that the involved mainland man had gone to a casino after leaving the hotel. Personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene to intercept him, and HKD100,000 in cash was seized from him. Upon investigation, it was found that the involved mainland man had committed theft while the victim was asleep, and HKD900,000 in cash had already been gambled away at the casino.
Based on investigative findings, the Judiciary Police transferred the involved mainland man to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of aggravated theft.
