Hotel robbery case cracked with two suspects arrested in the mainland

On the evening of 19th December 2025, the Judiciary Police received a notification from the Public Security Police Force, indicating that there was a robbery in a hotel room in Cotai.  The Judiciary Police deployed personnel to investigate immediately.

Investigation revealed that a mainland man, who was engaged in illegal currency exchange in Macao, alleged that he went to the hotel room to conduct currency exchange that afternoon as planned.  As he arrived, the first and second involved persons attacked him together.  The second involved person gripped the victim’s neck, causing him unable to resist, while the first involved person robbed the HKD180,000 in chips he was carrying from him and fled.  Subsequently, the second involved person used ratchet straps to tie up the victim’s hands and feet and kept watch for about half an hour before he fled as well.  The victim freed himself later and called the police for help.  After examination, it was found that the victim’s neck and wrists were swollen, consistent with the stipulation of the offence of common assault causing harm to bodily integrity.

The Judiciary Police swiftly identified the two involved persons, and found that they had departed Macao via the Hengqin Port after the perpetration.  Assistance from the mainland police was requested immediately via the emergency police communication mechanism.  With the coordination of the INTERPOL Macao, Sub-bureau of NCB China, the mainland police recently arrested the two involved persons in Hubei province successfully.

Besides, regarding the victim’s engagement in illegal currency exchange activity in Macao, the Judiciary Police had opened a separate case file, which was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office on 21st December 2025.

The case was promptly cracked, owing to the effective collaboration between the Judiciary Police and the mainland police, fully demonstrating the determination of both sides to jointly combat cross-border crimes and the effectiveness of the cooperation mechanism.
