Judiciary Police joined hands with Macao Customs Service and Public Security Police Force to bust a syndicate assisting illegal immigration with two mainland men arrested
In the early hours of 14th June 2023, the Macao Customs Service found three men sneaking into Macao by swimming at the seashore off Avenida dos Jogos da Ásia Oriental in Taipa, thus intercepted two of them on the spot. The Joint Prevention Mechanism for Anti-illegal Immigration was activated and notifications were made. The Public Security Police Force later seized the remaining male illegal immigrant in a hotel room in the Cotai district, while four men were also found at the same time. The case was subsequently referred to the Judiciary Police for follow-up investigation.
Investigation by the Special Investigation Division personnel of the Judiciary Police found that the three male illegal immigrants, with the assistance of an illegal immigration syndicate, used underwater thrusters to sneak into Macao by swimming. Two of them were seized by the Macao Customs Service right after they went ashore, while the other individual fled to Taipa and changed his clothes with the assistance of a Macao-based mainland member of the syndicate. After that, another mainland member arranged for him to hide in the above-mentioned hotel room, and the former had already been intercepted in the aforementioned operation of the Public Security Police Force. The Judiciary Police personnel intercepted the mainland member who had rendered assistance to the male illegal immigrant in a residential unit at Estrada Coronel Nicolau de Mesquita in Taipa, and also seized two mainland men who had been engaging in illegal currency exchange activities. One of them was arrested for making false declaration.
The two members of the syndicate both admitted to receiving payments for facilitating illegal immigration activities. The Judiciary Police transferred the two involved mainland men to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offences of criminal syndicate, sheltering illegal immigrants or illegal stayers.
