Filipino woman arrested for fraud on pretext of job referral
In a fraud case transferred from the Public Security Police Force to the Judiciary Police on 22nd May 2023, four non-resident workers had allegedly been defrauded of MOP 55,500 by a Filipino woman on pretext of offering job placement in Macao.
It was found that between March and May 2023, the four victims had learnt from a friend that the involved woman, working as a teacher in a school in Taipa, was purportedly capable of referring people to work as janitors in the school. Referral fees and visa application fees ranging from MOP 3,000 to 9,000 were demanded from each of the four victims, who, unaware of the fraud, referred 10 persons. Despite their payment of a total of MOP 55,500, they were kept being stalled by the involved woman instead of being offered employment. Only when the victims enquired the school in person did they learn that the involved person was not a teacher of that school. Suspected of fraud, they reported to the police.
Upon investigation by the Economic Crimes Division officers of the Judiciary Police, the involved woman admitted to her perpetration, hence her transfer to the Public Prosecutions Office for the charge of fraud (massive amount).
