Mainland Chinese man arrested for fraud on the pretext of visa application
A mainland Chinese man reported to the Judiciary Police on 6th May 2023 that he had been defrauded by a fellow countryman of RMB 380,000 on the pretext of application for a visa to Taiwan region.
The Economic Crimes Division officers of the Judiciary Police found that on 28th March 2023, the involved man had claimed to the victim that he could assist in the latter’s travel to Taiwan region in the name of a business exchange trip for a processing fee of RMB 20,000 and a guarantee of NTD 2 million. After the victim transferred RMB 380,000 to the involved man, he failed to obtain the relevant proof, despite his continuous pressing; instead he only received an air ticket bound to Taiwan with his name, which he realized had already been refunded when he arrived at the airport. Failing to contact the involved man, he suspected of fraud and reported to the police.
Upon identifying the involved man, the Judiciary Police intercepted him when he was entering Macao via Portas do Cerco on 16th May 2023. He denied the accusation, despite his failure to produce any proof of the visa application and refusal to explain the whereabouts of the money. He was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office for the charge of fraud (considerably huge amount).
