Anti-crime patrol operation – continuous combat against illegal currency exchange activities
To continuously enhance public security of casinos and their peripheries, via the “Prevention and Combat Against Illegal Exchange” cooperation mechanism with gaming concessionaires, the Gaming-related Crimes Division of the Judiciary Police has continued to carry out the measure of “combining combat and prevention”. On 13th May 2023, criminal investigation personnel were dispatched to conduct anti-crime patrol jointly with the personnel of the Security Department of a casino in the Cotai Strip, targeting illegal currency exchange activities (so-called “currency exchange gangs”) in its casino, hotel and shopping mall areas.
In the operation, a total of 24 persons (16 men and 8 women) were stopped and questioned. Among them, it was found that 10 mainlanders (7 men and 3 women) were suspected of engaging in illegal currency exchange activities.
Identity verification process and investigation were carried out on the aforementioned 10 persons and no involvement in other crimes was found. All of them were thus transferred to the Border Control Department of the Public Security Police Force for handling.
