Mainland man arrested for aggravated theft
On 23rd January 2023, the Public Security Police Force referred a case to the Judiciary Police, in which a mainland man’s shoulder bag had been stolen in a hotel food court in the Cotai district, incurring a loss equivalent to approximately MOP130,000.
The Section for Offences against Property personnel of the Judiciary Police initiated investigation and found that a man had stolen the male victim’s shoulder bag while the latter was having a meal on the day when the incident took place, and then handed it to another accomplice. The duo subsequently left the crime scene and fled Macao.
On April 28th, the Judiciary Police personnel intercepted one of the involved mainland men at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge checkpoint, who denied the perpetration and refused to cooperate. Yet, based on the investigative results, there were strong indications that he had committed theft. As such, the Judiciary Police transferred him to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of aggravated theft, while pursuing the whereabouts of the other involved individual and illicit proceeds.
