Mainland Chinese arrested for aggravated theft and abuse of credit card
A mainland Chinese man, whose wallet was stolen after shopping at a shop in the central district on 13th December 2019, promptly reported to the Judiciary Police, alleging a loss of HKD 72,000 of cash.
Upon in-depth investigation, the Section for Offences against Property officers of the Judiciary Police found that the case involved two mainland Chinese, a man and a woman, who entered Macao again on 12th April 2023. Having stolen the wallet from a Hong Kong woman in a resort hotel in Cotai at dusk on April 16th, they used the credit card therein for four transactions, totaling MOP 27,000. The Judiciary Police, with the assistance of the Public Security Police Force, intercepted the duo on the same evening, seizing the female victim’s wallet and items purchased with her credit card from the involved woman. Despite her confession to have stolen property from the female victim and misappropriated the latter’s credit card, the involved woman allegedly failed to confirm the fact that she had stolen from the male victim several years earlier.
Based on investigative results, there were compelling indications of the two involved persons’ perpetration of the theft, hence their transfer to the Public Prosecutions Office for the charges of aggravated theft and abuse of guarantee card or credit card.
