Macao man nabbed for involvement in massive fraud and falsification of document of special value
In February 2023, the Judiciary Police received a report from a hotel, indicating that a number of cars took advantage of the first three hours’ free parking offer, to enter and exit the carpark by swapping car licence plates, facilitating long-term parking inside the carpark and evasion of parking fee payment. The hotel reported that a loss of MOP96,000 had been incurred.
Personnel of the Economic Crimes Division of the Judiciary Police launched an investigation, and learnt that several of the cars were owned by the same Macao man, who was intercepted at the Macao port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge on March 9th. He confessed that, from September 2022 to January 2023, he employed the above tactic and had three cars parked in turn at the hotel’s carpark. The cars had been parked for at least 3,840 hours, involving a parking fee of approximately MOP96,000.
The Judiciary Police transferred the involved man to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offences of fraud (massive amount) and falsification of document of special value.
