Domestic violence case cracked with a man and 2 women arrested
On 6th March 2023, the Judiciary Police received a report from a local woman who claimed that she had been abused by her husband for a long time, and requested that the latter be held criminally accountable.
Investigation by the personnel of Section for Offences against Persons of the Judiciary Police revealed that the female victim had been working in the medical centre operated by the involved local man. The couple got married in 2014, yet since 2018, the involved man often punched and kicked the female victim, and pulled her hair due to trivial matters in life and work. On 29th January 2022, the involved man confined her in the medical room of the aforesaid medical centre for six hours as he was dissatisfied with her work, during which he tied her hands and feet from behind with a cable tie, made abusive remarks, strangled her neck, punched and kicked her. The female victim once determined to leave the involved man and resigned, but was later coaxed by the involved man into returning to her job, yet she kept being harassed by him. Hence, she could no longer bear the torture and sought assistance from the social workers, and eventually filed a complaint with the police to pursue the case.
The Judiciary Police personnel arrested the involved man in his residence on 7th March 2023, and found that he had assaulted and insulted the female victim on at least ten occasions. It was also found that two female staff members of the medical centre, who were from mainland and the Philippines respectively, had ignored the female victim’s cries for help while she was in captivity. The duo were therefore brought back for investigation.
The Judiciary Police transferred the three involved individuals to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offences including deprivation of other’s freedom of movement, domestic violence (combined with aggravated circumstances of the offence), and omission of aid respectively.
