Two persons arrested in the crackdown of a syndicate assisting in illegal immigration
The Judiciary Police recently received intelligence that a criminal syndicate had been assisting people to illegally enter Macao from a construction site at Hengqin Port, Zhuhai. Upon investigation, information of the syndicate members was substantiated; it was learnt that the syndicate ringleader had illegally entered Macao, hiding in a hotel in Cotai. Deployment was promptly made in response to the criminal syndicate’s another scheme to assist others to illegally enter Macao on 5th March 2023.
During the wee hours of March 5th, the Intelligence and Support Department officers of the Judiciary Police intercepted three men respectively on Cotai Strip and a hotel in Cotai, identifying two of them as the ringleader and a member of the involved syndicate, while the other person as an illegal immigrant, who had allegedly paid the criminal syndicate RMB 15,000 to illegally enter Macao. The other two men denied their perpetration, despite the investigative information and evidence seized that compellingly indicated one of them as the syndicate ringleader who had plotted this illegal immigration scheme, while the other was responsible for leading the way. The syndicate ringleader had purchased a counterfeit Slip of Authorization to Stay with RMB 500 for checking in the hotel room.
The Judiciary Police transferred the involved criminal syndicate ringleader and a member, as well as an illegal immigrant, to the Public Prosecutions Office for the five charges of criminal syndicate, assisting in illegal immigration and illegal stay, entry without being subject to migration controls, document falsification, and using or possessing counterfeit document.
