Two foreigners arrested in the crackdown of a case of drug trafficking on an international flight
As flights are resuming in Macao, the Judiciary Police criminal investigators reinforce interception of inbound travelers. Intercepting two Malaysians, a man and a woman, arriving at Macao International Airport from Singapore at noon of 15th February 2023, the Narcotics Division officers of the Judiciary Police inspected their personal belongings and luggage, seizing 18 bottles of red wine in the duo’s checked baggage respectively. Seeing that the bottle labels were inconsistent with the liquid in the bottles, the Judiciary Police officers examined the red wine with a portable drug detector, only to find that the liquid in the bottles contained the drug cocaine.
During interrogation, the duo claimed that they were strangers to each other. After meeting in Malaysia on February 15th, together they took the flight from Malaysia to Singapore before transferring to Macao. Allegedly entrusted by a friend to bring the wine to Macao before sending it to Hong Kong for a reward of HKD 5,000, they both were oblivious of the drug content in the red wine. The Judiciary Police officers seized a total of 27 litres of liquid cocaine in this operation.
The Judiciary Police transferred the involved man and woman to the Public Prosecutions Office for the charge of illegal trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances, while tracing the other involved persons and the origin of the drug.
