Mainland Chinese man arrested for fraud of massive amount and money laundering
A local woman reported to the Judiciary Police in October 2022 that having purchased mobile phones online earlier, she failed to receive the goods and a refund. She later learnt from a social networking platform that someone could pursue the money on her behalf, hence making successive transfers of around RMB 79,000 to four mainland Chinese bank accounts as instructed. Eventually realizing that it was a scam, she reported to the police.
Upon in-depth investigation and with the assistance of the mainland Chinese police, the I.T. Crimes Division officers of the Judiciary Police learnt that two of the mainland Chinese bank accounts belonged to a mainland Chinese man, who was intercepted upon his entry into Macao on 29th January 2023. Based on investigative results, the Judiciary Police transferred the involved man to the Public Prosecutions Office for the charges of fraud (massive amount) and money laundering, while tracing other involved persons.
