Three local individuals nabbed for high-yield deposit scam
On 28th September 2022, a mainland man reported to the Judiciary Police that he had been defrauded of over RMB1.92 million by three local individuals on the pretext of high interest return.
Case details revealed that in late August 2021, two of the involved individuals promoted an insurance product worth RMB200,000 to the victim, and subsequently persuaded the victim to deposit the aforesaid funds into a VIP club account instead by offering a monthly interest rate of 5% to 7%. The victim thought that a profit was in sight, further deposited RMB1.721 million into the account through the two individuals and successively made a profit of RMB420,000. Until January 2022, the victim learned that the above-mentioned VIP club had already ceased operation. The involved man therefore arranged a male accomplice to sign a property mortgage authorization with the victim, allowing the victim to continue keeping the funds in the VIP club. Afterwards, the victim found that the property registration document presented by the two involved men was forged. Suspected of being defrauded, the victim reported to the police for assistance.
Subsequent to investigation, the Judiciary Police identified three involved men and woman, successively intercepted them on 28th and 29th November 2022, and transferred the three involved individuals to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offences of fraud (considerably huge amount) and falsification of documents of special value based on the investigative findings.
