Mainland woman arrested for fraud on the pretext of assisting to transport bicycles
The Judiciary Police received a complaint from a local man in September 2021, claiming that he had been defrauded of RMB50,000 by a mainland woman on the pretext of assisting to transport bicycles.
Investigation revealed that the male victim had got acquainted with the involved woman who self-professed to be engaging in parallel trading business in May 2021. In August 2021, she claimed to have received a consignment job to transport 1,000 bicycles from Japan to the mainland via Hong Kong and Macao, expecting a reward of RMB200 for each bicycle she helped to transport. She also persuaded the male victim to cooperate with her to undertake this business while asking him to pay RMB50,000 as a security deposit. The unsuspecting male victim therefore deposited the funds into the involved woman’s bank account in mainland. It was until September 2021 that he still did not see any progress of the transportation job, therefore asked for refund but to no avail. Suspected to have been scammed, he reported to the police for help.
Based on investigative results, the Judiciary Police intercepted the involved woman when she entered Macao on 25th May 2022. She professed that someone had entrusted her to transport bicycles, yet she was unable to provide information of the entruster. The Judiciary Police therefore transferred the involved woman to the Public Prosecutions Office with the charge of fraud (massive amount).
