Local man arrested for fraud by surrogate application of identity documents
In a case of fraud received from the Public Security Police Force in early May 2022, the male victim from mainland China reported that he had been defrauded of around RMB 35,000 by a local man who allegedly assisted him in filing applications for Non-resident Worker’s I.D. Cards.
Case details revealed that the victim had got acquainted with the involved man through a friend in May 2019. The involved man claimed that he was able to assist in obtaining Non-resident Worker’s I.D. Card for mainland Chinese residents, charging them a deposit of RMB 3,800 each, to work in the construction industry in Macao. The unsuspecting victim successively handed around RMB 35,000 to the involved person as a deposit for the surrogate applications of multiple Non-resident Worker’s I.D. Cards. Since then, the involved man stalled with various excuses. Having lost contact with the involved man eventually, the victim reported to the police.
Upon investigation, the Judiciary Police intercepted the involved local man in ZAPE on 19th May 2022. He admitted to have defrauded the victim out of debt, which had been repaid with all of the fraud proceeds. He was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office for the charge of fraud (massive amount).
