Mainland man arrested for fraud of considerably huge amount
On 17th May 2022, the Public Security Police Force referred a case of fraud to the Judiciary Police, in which the mainland male victim reported that he had got acquainted with the involved mainland man in a casino located in the Cotai district on 14th May 2022. At that time, the involved man claimed that he had lost money in gambling. He first exchanged HKD150,000 with the victim for gambling, and subsequently borrowed HKD300,000 chips from the latter by surrendering a luxury watch as collateral. After having won HKD10,000, the involved man handed over the winnings to the victim and seized the opportunity to flee while the two were dining together. The victim later located the involved man who claimed to have gambled away all the money. The victim therefore took the above-mentioned luxury watch to a pawnshop for inquiry. Upon learning that it was a counterfeit, the victim immediately reported to the police for assistance.
Subsequent to in-depth investigation, the Judiciary Police found that instead of having gambled away the chips, the involved man handed the chips to an accomplice who fled Macao after cashing the chips in a casino located in Taipa. The Judiciary Police transferred the involved man to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of fraud (considerably huge amount), while pursuing the whereabouts of other involved persons and illicit proceeds.
