Four Vietnamese men apprehended for involvement in drug trafficking, usage or possession of other’s documents and illegal re-entry respectively
To effectively prevent criminals from trafficking drugs via postal parcels during the pandemic, the Judiciary Police has strengthened the collection of relevant intelligence and investigation. Earlier on, it was learned that a criminal syndicate had sent drugs from the Netherlands to Macao via postal parcels, hence meticulous deployment was swiftly initiated.
On 14th February 2022, personnel of the Judiciary Police found that four Vietnamese members of the criminal syndicate had proceeded to the Central district to pick up a parcel, and thereby took action when they collected the parcel, with the four individuals intercepted and the involved parcel seized. Having examined the items in the parcel, the Judiciary Police found 1,057 “ecstasy pills” (MDMA) worth approximately MOP210,000 concealed under chocolate packaging.
The four involved men were charged with the offence of illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. Since one of them was suspected of having re-entered Macao illegally and carrying other’s identity documents, the Judiciary Police charged him additionally with the offences of usage or possession of other’s documents and illegal re-entry, and transferred them all to the Public Prosecutions Office, while pursuing the origin of drugs and other involved individuals.
