Local man apprehended for fraud of considerably huge amount
A mainland man got acquainted with the involved local man via friends in 2016, learning that the opposite party could assist him in settling in Macao via “Major Investment Plan”. He thus handed him HKD1,800,000 to process related procedures. Having submitted relevant application to Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) on behalf of the victim and his family between 2016 and 2017, the involved man assisted the victim in getting temporary residency. However, he subsequently refused to update the victim on the application progress with different excuses. The victim, who dunned for the money from the involved man via civil court, eventually discovered that the involved application had already been cancelled since the involved man failed to provide IPIM with the information needed. Suspected that he had been defrauded, the victim reported to the Judiciary Police.
On 24th January 2022, the Judiciary Police interrogated the involved man, who just stated that he had spent HKD800,000 of the money paid by the victim on establishing a company, yet failed to provide the whereabouts of the rest of the money. The Judiciary Police thereby transferred him to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of fraud (considerably huge amount).
