Local woman arrested for fraud on the pretext of investment in parking space
On 28th October 2020, the Judiciary Police received a complaint from a mainland woman who claimed to have been defrauded of over RMB220,000 by a Macao woman with the excuse of investment in parking space.
Case details revealed that the involved woman had borrowed RMB92,000 from the victim in August 2019. She later falsely claimed that she was notified by her relative, who was a property agent, that a customer had failed to pay the balance to purchase a parking space. The involved woman was interested in obtaining that parking space for investment, therefore persuaded the victim to convert the loan to an investment fund while investing the remaining amount, so as to make up to HKD250,000. She would reward the victim with HKD20,000 when the parking space is re-sold in the future. As such, the unsuspecting victim successively handed over HKD94,000 of cash and transferred RMB55,300 to the involved woman, who could not be reached later on. Suspected to have been defrauded, the victim reported to the police for help.
Subsequent to investigation, the Judiciary Police found out that the involved woman had fabricated the investment project, therefore summoned her for investigation on 13th December 2021. She confessed that she had misappropriated the victim’s HKD94,000 to invest in her own daigou business but was unable to repay the debt due to insufficient cash flow. The Judiciary Police transferred the involved woman to the Public Prosecutions Office with the charge of fraud (considerably huge amount).
