Local man arrested for fraud
The Judiciary Police received a complaint from a local telecommunications operator in mid November 2021, alleging that they had received comments from several residents that someone claiming to be a staff member of the telecommunications operator requested to enter their apartments to check the wiring equipment, meanwhile the individual presented something appeared to be a staff card. The telecommunications operator stated that they did not arrange any staff members to conduct such inspections in the residences of their clients, thus reporting the case to the police.
The Judiciary contacted four residents according to the information of the case. They all said that a Macao man who self-claimed to be a staff member of the telecommunications operator entered their residences under the pretext of inspecting household wiring equipment. After writing down the information of the router in the residences, he promoted the sale of a router valued at MOP1,900 to the residents. However, none of them bought it so they did not suffer any loss. Based on the relevant investigative evidence, the Judiciary Police identified the perpetrator, and intercepted him on December 9th. He was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of fraud.
The Judiciary Police urges the public to be vigilant if a stranger asks to open the door or enter the house, and do not open the door casually to prevent criminals from taking the opportunity to commit robbery, theft or fraud; if you have any questions, you should immediately call the relevant department, enterprise or building management office to verify.
