Mainland man arrested for fraud of considerably huge amount and money laundering
When the Judiciary Police conducted parallel investigations on recent fraud cases, it was found that four of them were related to a mainland couple; the amount incurred was equivalent to a total of 5.9 million patacas approximately.
The Judiciary Police had received complaints from 6 victims between July and November 2021 successively, reporting that they had exchanged currencies, or ordered branded handbags, luxury watches, cell phones and skincare products etc. at a discounted price, through the involved woman who claimed to be working in a local casino VIP club, luxury store and duty-free shop. The amount involved was equivalent to a total of 5.9 million patacas approximately. The victims respectively deposited money to the bank accounts either of the involved woman or her husband, but the involved woman made excuses to postpone delivery or delay refund after delivering only a few items. Everyone eventually found out that they had been deceived and reported the case to the police.
After a comprehensive analysis of the above cases, the Judiciary Police confirmed the identities of the above-mentioned couple, intercepted the involved man at the Border Gate checkpoint on 19th November 2021, and transferred him to the Public Prosecutions Office with the offences of fraud (considerably huge amount) and money laundering, while pursuing the other involved person(s).
