Local man arrested for fraud of massive amount and computer forgery
A local man reported to the Judiciary Police in early May 2021 that he had been defrauded of MOP 75,000 by another local man on the pretext of establishing a civic association
Case details revealed that the victim had been convinced by the invovled man to establish a civic association in Macao in October 2020, with the duo as the chairman and vice chairman respectively. The involved man lured the victim into participation with the cashable government grant of MOP 80 million for setting up a civic association. The involved man subsequently requested the victim to pay MOP 75,400 in advance for purchasing equipment for the association. In March 2021, the involved man informed the victim that the government grant had been received, and that he had allegedly transferred two payments to the latter, sending him the screenshots of the said transfers. When the victim realized that no payment had been made to his account, he promptly requested the involved man to produce documents of establishing the civic association. Having lost contact with the involved man shortly after, the victim suspected of fraud and reported to the police.
Having confirmed the non-existence of such civic association and the receipt of payments from the victim in the involved man’s bank account, the Judiciary Police intercepted the involved man at Portas do Cerco on November 1st, while uncovering his involvement in three other cases of fraud. The involved man, having admitted to his perpetration, was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office for the charges of fraud (massive amount) and computer forgery.
