Hong Kong man apprehended for involvement in fraud of considerably huge amount
In December 2020, the Judiciary Police received a complaint from a Macao woman, indicating that a Hong Kong male friend had alleged that, he would take over the full ownership of a mahjong parlour business in Hong Kong and invited her to inject HKD680,000 into the business. Unaware that it was a deception, the victim gave HKD680,000 to the man without signing any documents. Thereafter, the involved man used various excuses to conceal the progress of buying the existing mahjong parlour business. The victim became suspicious and called the mahjong parlour herself for enquiry. It turned out that the mahjong parlour business had never been sold. The victim realized that she had been defrauded and reported to the Judiciary Police for assistance.
Upon investigation, the Judiciary Police found out that the involved man had already fled Macao in October 2020. Until 10th October 2021, he was intercepted while entering Macao via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Upon completion of his medical observation on October 25th, the involved man was brought back to the Judiciary Police for investigation, and was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of fraud (considerably huge amount).
