Local woman apprehended for massive fraud and computer forgery
In October 2020, a mainland man reported to the Judiciary Police that he had been defrauded of RMB70,000 by a woman under the pretext of exchanging Renminbi. Investigation was immediately initiated.
Investigation revealed that the involved woman had contacted the male victim many times for currency exchange in September 2020. During this period of time, the involved woman sent multiple screenshots capturing the transaction records of bank transfers to the victim via telecommunications app. Having conducted transactions successfully before, the victim thus deposited successively a total amount of RMB44,000 into the involved person’s account. However, the money could not be received by the victim afterwards as the involved person constantly procrastinated with different excuses. Meanwhile, the involved person also disguised as two different persons and defrauded the victim in the same way for many times, which eventually incurred a total loss of RMB70,000 to the victim.
On 18th September 2021, the personnel of the Judiciary Police intercepted the involved woman successfully at the Border Gate Checkpoint and brought her back for investigation. The woman admitted to her perpetration and confessed that the illicit proceeds had been used to repay her debts. The Judiciary Police transferred her to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offences of fraud (massive amount) and computer forgery.
