Mainland man arrested for involvement in massive fraud
In January 2020, a mainland man reported to the Judiciary Police that he had conducted currency exchange with two other mainland men in a hotel room in Cotai district. As he received a mobile text message stating that a remittance of RMB90,000 would be credited to his bank account, he handed HKD100,000 in cash to the duo, only to find out later that the text message was an application for money transfer, and the amount was not actually transferred to his account. The duo were also out of reach, thus he reported the case to the police for assistance.
The Judiciary Police identified the two involved men after investigation, and found that they had fled Macao after committing the crime. Until 16th September 2021, the Judiciary Police intercepted one of the involved mainland men when he entered Macao, and transferred him to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of massive fraud. The other involved man was still being pursued.
