Mainland woman arrested for involvement in fraud
On 24th July 2019, the Public Security Police Force referred a fraud case to the Judiciary Police. A mainland couple who engaged in illegal currency exchange and an involved mainland woman were also transferred to the Judiciary Police for follow-up.
Investigation revealed that at the involved woman’s request, the aforesaid couple proceeded to a park near Avenida da Amizade to carry out the transaction on that day. During the course, they were demanded by an involved man, who claimed himself to be a “Judiciary Police officer”, to present their identity documents as well as handing him the handbag which contained HKD320,000. The involved man also falsely claimed that they could go to the police station to retrieve their belongings two hours later. Subsequently, the victimized couple suspected that both the man and woman conspired to defraud them. Thus, they brought the involved woman along with them and reported the case to the police for assistance.
The Judiciary Police found out that both the involved man and woman entered Macao together and impersonated police officers to commit fraud. Upon commission of the crime, the involved man fled to the mainland with the stolen money immediately. The Judiciary Police transferred the involved woman to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offences of fraud (considerably huge amount) and usurpation of duty, while continuing to pursue the individual at large and the whereabouts of the stolen money.
