Guangdong and Macao police forces jointly cracked syndicate which assisted illegal immigration, with 14 persons arrested

Through intelligence exchange with the mainland Public Security authorities, the Judiciary Police learnt that a criminal syndicate had been assisting illegal immigrants sneaking into Macao by means of speedboat. Personnel were deployed forthwith to conduct surveillance. In the wee hours of 26th December 2018, personnel of the Judiciary Police intercepted 4 “snakeheads” and 4 illegal immigrants in succession. One of the “snakeheads” was the ringleader of the syndicate.

Subsequently, the Judiciary Police notified the Macao Customs Service and the Guangdong Coast Guard Corps of the incident, and requested for assistance in intercepting the speedboat which was used to transport illegal immigrants. Eventually, the speedboat was successfully intercepted by the Guangdong Coast Guard Corps and the Zhuhai Public Security Bureau. The remaining 5 syndicate members and one illegal immigrant were arrested in the mainland.

Investigation revealed that the criminal syndicate had been operating for 3 months. Each time, the syndicate would charge each illegal immigrant a smuggling fee ranging from RMB6,000 to RMB15,000, so as to provide assistance to travel to and fro Zhuhai and Macao by boat. The Judiciary Police charged the 4 mainland men who were arrested in Macao for the offence of criminal syndicate and assisting (illegal entry), and the quartet was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office together with the 5 illegal immigrants.
