Man and woman arrested for involvement in drug trafficking
Based on the recent drug cases busted in the neighbouring regions, together with the combination of intelligence analysis, the Judiciary Police found that the modus operandi in drug trafficking and routes employed by drug cartels had been altered. Thus, target-oriented deployment had been carried out.
On 4th March 2018, personnel of the Judiciary Police intercepted an African man on his arrival to Macao from Manila at Macau International Airport. From the X-ray body scanner, it was found that the man had concealed a large amount of drugs in his body cavity. The involved man then excreted 67 pellets (around 1.02 kg) of suspected drugs. He confessed to have received USD1,500 as a reward from a drug cartel for smuggling drugs from Cameroon (in circuitous routes) and handed the drugs to someone in Macao by means of body packing. Upon completion of the crime, he would receive another USD2,500 as a reward.
Based on the investigative clues, on 5th March 2018, personnel of the Judiciary Police arrested a Malaysian woman in a hotel at Avenida da Praia Grande. She confessed to have been instructed by a drug cartel to trade drugs with the involved man, and would then traffic the drugs for sale in the neighbouring regions. Subsequently, after conducting tests on the aforementioned drugs by the Judiciary Police, it was confirmed that the drugs were “ice”, which worth MOP3,000,000. The Judiciary Police transferred the duo to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances while pursuing the source of the drugs.
