Two mainland Chinese men arrested in the joint crackdown by the Judiciary Police and Macao Customs Service of a case of assisting illegal immigration
Following intelligence, the Intelligence and Support Department of the Judiciary Police learnt on 11th April 2024 that a criminal syndicate was about to assist illegal immigrants in leaving mainland China, by sea, for Macao, where they would disembark along the coast of Hac Sa, Coloane. The Macao Customs Service was promptly informed for joint deployment.
Spotting a speedboat docking on the waters off Long Chao Kok, Ha Sa during the wee hours of 12th April 2024, the Judiciary Police officers took action immediately with the Macao Customs Service officers. To evade interception by the latter, the two involved mainland Chinese men escaped in the speedboat dangerously at a high speed, eventually causing the boat to capsize and many onboard to fall into the sea.
Instantly launching rescue at sea, the Macao Customs Service rescued all 11 men and 1 woman onboard the boat, including the two involved mainland Chinese men and ten illegal immigrants. One of the illegal immigrants, a female, was sent to the hospital for her critical condition.
It was found that the involved criminal syndicate had received from each illegal immigrant an amount ranging from RMB 30,000 to 40,000 to assist them in illegally entering Macao. Nine of the male illegal immigrants had allegedly come to Macao to engage in illegal exchange. Admitting to their perpetration, the two involved mainland Chinese men had picked up the illegal immigrants to illegally enter Macao, as instructed by the criminal syndicate, for a reward of RMB 5,000 each.
Based on investigative outcomes, the two involved mainland Chinese men were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office for the three charges of criminal syndicate, assisting in illegal entry and exit and illegal staying, and dangerous operation of transportation vehicles.
