Hong Kong woman arrested for fraud of massive amount
A male victim reported to the Judiciary Police on 27th April 2023 that he had been defrauded of money online. The I.T. Crimes Division of the Judiciary Police promptly launched investigation.
It was shown that the male victim, having got acquainted with the involved woman, a self-proclaimed Chinese Taiwanese engaging in the business of tea leaf auction, on a social app in early April 2023, was invited by the latter to purchase a batch of expensive tea leaves. Despite his remittance of HKD 56,500 to the Hong Kong bank account designated by the involved woman on 13th April 2023, the victim eventually failed to receive such tea leaves and lost contact with the latter.
Investigation into the said bank account ascertained that its holder was a Hong Kong resident (i.e. the involved woman), who was then intercepted upon her entry at Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Port on 31st March 2024. She failed to justify the remittance of the involved proceeds into her account.
Based on investigative results, the Judiciary Police transferred the involved Hong Kong woman to the Public Prosecutions Office for the charge of fraud (massive amount).
