Judiciary Police cracked a case of false imprisonment, extortion and illegal immigration
On 19th March 2024, at 5 PM, the Case Reporting and Emergency Operation Centre of the Judiciary Police was notified by the Public Security Police Force that a case involving deprivation of other’s freedom of movement and extortion had occurred inside a hotel guestroom in the Cotai district. The Robbery Offences Section of the Judiciary Police immediately followed up and handled the case.
Case details revealed that the female victim had entered Macao illegally from the mainland last year, during which she got acquainted with the involved woman. On the night of 18th March 2024, the female victim was invited to the hotel guestroom by the involved woman to have a chat, yet found that there was also a strange man (i.e. the other involved individual) inside the room. At that time, the involved woman claimed that the female victim’s boyfriend had owed her RMB50,000, and demanded the female victim to pay off the loan instead but was refused. Hence, the two involved individuals falsely imprisoned and battered the female victim, who was also warned that if she did not repay the debt, she would be reported for illegal entry to Macao for prostitution. The female victim eventually borrowed RMB10,000 and transferred it to the other party. Seeing that the female victim was unable to borrow more money, the two involved individuals therefore smashed her mobile phone in an attempt to destroy the evidence of the money transfer and prevent her from reporting to the police, and only released her in the early hours of March 19th. The female victim sought assistance from the hotel personnel thereupon and the police arrived at the scene to arrest the two involved individuals.
Based on the investigative results, there were strong indications that the two involved individuals had jointly committed offences including deprivation of other’s freedom of movement, extortion and sabotage, hence the Judiciary Police transferred them to the Public Prosecutions Office for the aforesaid offences. Moreover, since the female victim had been in the state of being prohibited from entry and illegally entered Macao, the Judiciary Police established a separate case file for investigation and also transferred her to the Public Prosecutions Office for handling.
