Mainland man arrested for fraud of considerably huge amount, usage of other’s ID documents and money laundering
On 14th March 2024, the Judiciary Police received a case of frozen account from the Public Security Police Force. The mainland male victim reported that his receiving bank account was frozen after conducting currency exchanges with the involved mainland man, suffering a loss of approximately MOP 210,000.
The Economic Crimes Division of the Judiciary Police launched an investigation and found that the two had conducted multiple currency exchanges on that day. When the victim was to receive the third remittance from the involved man, he found that his account used for receiving the amount was frozen. Inquiry to the bank revealed the reason that the source of the funds was involved in criminal activities. An argument between the two ensued, during which the victim sought help from the Public Security Police Force constable stationed at the hotel.
Having integrated the findings of the investigation, it was strongly hinted that the involved mainland man had premeditated to cash out funds of unknown source by means of currency exchange transactions. The Judiciary Police transferred the involved mainland man to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offences of fraud (considerably huge amount), usage of other’s ID documents and money laundering, while continuing to pursue the other absconded involved persons.
