Mainland Chinese woman arrested for aggravated theft and aggravated fraud
In a case of aggravated theft transferred from the Public Security Police Force to the Judiciary Police on 3rd February 2024, a local man reported that his mainland Chinese domestic helper had gone missing for no reason that evening. Realizing that, upon inspection, wristwatches, handbags, gold jewellery, etc. worth around MOP 1 million in his residence were missing, he suspected that it was the deed of his domestic helper.
Promptly following up the investigation, the Robbery Offences Section officers of the Judiciary Police found that the involved mainland Chinese woman had pawned a wristwatch at a pawnshop in Taipa for around HKD 50,000 and fled Macao after the incident.
The involved mainland Chinese woman was intercepted upon her entry on February 6th. She admitted to her perpetration due to losses in investment and gambling. She had repeatedly stolen and pawned her employer’s wristwatches for gambling since 2022, redeeming and putting back the watches in cases of winnings. Having failed to redeem the wristwatch owing to her recent losses in gambling, she looted her employer’s residence and took all wristwatches, handbags and gold jewellery, while her employer was away, before fleeing to mainland China on the day of the incident.
Based on investigative results, the Judiciary Police transferred the involved mainland Chinese woman to the Public Prosecutions Office for the charges of aggravated theft and aggravated fraud.
