Sierra Leonean man arrested for smuggling cocaine in the crackdown of a case of body packing
To combat criminal syndicates’ drug trafficking by air, the Narcotics Division officers of the Judiciary Police reinforced the screening of inbound air passengers based on intelligence, detecting a suspicious Sierra Leonean man on a flight arriving in Macao from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 4th December 2023 and intercepting him at Macao International Airport that afternoon upon deployment.
Using an X-ray body scanner, the Judiciary Police officers found that the involved man had hidden numerous oval-shaped objects in his body. He was thus sent to Conde S. Januário Hospital for further examination, during which he excreted 45 oval-shaped objects, which were ascertained, upon emergency examination by the Forensic Science Department of the Judiciary Police, to be the drug cocaine that collectively weighed 1,005.48 grams and valued at around MOP 3,318,000.
The involved man admitted to have been recruited by a drug trafficking syndicate. He had smuggled the drug by body concealment from Johannesburg, South Africa to Macao, where further instructions would be given, for a reward of USD 2,000. He refused to disclose information of the upper level members of the syndicate.
The Judiciary Police transferred the involved man to the Public Prosecutions Office for the charge of illegal trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances, while continuing to trace the origin and destination of the drug and the other involved persons.
