Local man arrested for job referral fraud
Seven male victims from mainland China successively reported to the Judiciary Police from September to October 2023 that they had been defrauded by a local man on the pretext of job referral.
Upon investigation, the Economic Crimes Division officers of the Judiciary Police found that the victims had known the involved man while working in Macao. They were misled into believing his capability of referring people to work in the construction industry in Macao and applying for Non-resident Worker’s Identification Cards. They then handed visa processing fees totaling RMB 185,300, paid by 96 of their relatives in mainland China, to the involved man, who thereafter stalled with various excuses before eventually vanishing. Suspected of fraud, the victims reported to the police.
The involved man, being intercepted at his residence and taken in for investigation on November 16th, admitted to his perpetration and having used up the fraud proceeds for repaying his debt and gambling. The Judiciary Police transferred him to the Public Prosecutions Office for the charge of fraud (considerably huge amount).
